This tutorial explains how to carry out the Transmission Control Module (TCM) clutch learning procedure on a 2022 Ford Fiesta using Launch X431 diagnostic tool.
Function Overview
This function allows the TCM to relearn clutch parameters after replacing clutch components or transmission-related parts, ensuring proper shifting performance.
Vehicle Information
2022 / Ford / Fiesta
Compatible Devices
Supports all Launch X431 series diagnostic scanners
(e.g., X431 PAD VII, PAD V, PAD9 LINK, etc.)
Example device used in this guide:
Launch X431 PAD9 LINK
Step-by-Step Procedure
Enter:
Local Diagnose → Ford → Select Ford diagnostic software version (e.g. V50.52) → Automatically Search
The system will automatically identify the vehicle model.

Turn the ignition switch to ON (Position II).
Confirm that the vehicle information is correct.
Tap “High-speed Scan” at the lower right corner to scan all vehicle systems.

Select “TCM” to enter the Transmission Control Module.

Go to:
Special Functions → TCM (Transmission Control Module) Clutch System Learn

Review the function description before proceeding.

Enter the main menu and select the option corresponding to the replaced component.
If selecting “Dual Clutch Pack”, follow the procedure below.

Confirm ignition condition:
Ignition ON, engine OFF.
For TCM adaptive learning, ensure the following:
Gear selector in Neutral
Parking brake engaged
Foot brake pressed
Only when all conditions are satisfied can you proceed.
Clutch system learning – Perform clutch friction coefficient calibration.
Ignition OFF.
Ignition ON (engine OFF).
Check transmission oil temperature.
Maintain temperature between 40°C and 95°C.
Again confirm:
Neutral gear
Parking brake applied
Foot brake depressed
Proceed to clutch contact point learning and wait approximately 2 minutes.
Ignition OFF.
Learning process completed. Exit the program.

If selecting any of the following options in the main menu:
Actuator or Pump E-Motor / Cooling Pump / Cooler Cover / Pressure Sensor / Temperature Sensor
Clutch Pump
Clutch Cover / Transmission
Transmission Control Unit
The operating procedure is similar.
Below is an example using:
“Actuator or Pump E-Motor / Cooling Pump / Cooler Cover / Pressure Sensor / Temperature Sensor”

Ignition ON, engine OFF.
Verify transmission oil temperature.
Oil temperature must be between 20°C and 40°C.
Ensure:
Neutral gear
Parking brake engaged
Foot brake pressed
Perform clutch friction coefficient calibration.
Ignition OFF.
Ignition ON (engine OFF).
Check oil temperature again.
Maintain between 40°C and 100°C.
Confirm operating conditions:
Neutral
Parking brake applied
Foot brake pressed
Perform clutch contact point learning and wait approximately 2 minutes.
Ignition OFF.
Procedure completed successfully.
